History
Hope Lutheran Church formed as an outreach mission church of Genesis Lutheran Church, Buchanan Dam, Texas. Beginning April 2010 and continuing for one year, we met every Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Marble Falls Chamber of Commerce on 2nd street. At those meetings we would pray, study the Bible, enjoy fellowship, address opportunities for community outreach, host guest speakers, plan services, and address the planting, naming, and organizational needs of a new church.
Realizing the need for a more traditional church service, we moved to a Saturday night service conducted at the First Methodist Church chapel located across from the HEB store on FM1431 in early 2011. Throughout these formative years, the church was led by Rev. Bruce Drees, a retired LCMS Pastor living in the area. The members held services there until renting a building at 609 Main St., Marble Falls in April of 2011. There the church was blessed with growth and service until September 2014, when that building was unexpectedly sold by the owner, and Hope Lutheran Church temporarily moved Sunday services to the Meeting Room of the local Holiday Inn Express. On December 22, 2014 the congregation purchased its permanent building on N. Hwy 281 in Marble Falls. We finally had a location that we could call home. Work then began on the remodeling required to make better utilization of the interior space. The building was soon ready to be used, thanks to the hard work of numerous congregation members who did the majority of the work preparing the church for occupancy. Milestones
After renting our first building, it was still some time before worship services could be conducted due to required renovations to the building. But eventually, all was in readiness and services began. Shown here is Rev. Drees in front of the newly custom-crafted cross and altar which was designed and constructed by Gary Simons, a congregation member. Our first baptism! On June 26, 2011, we celebrated the baptism of our first new member, Adlin Grace Schnell, daughter of Keith and Grace Schnell. Five generations of the Schnell family were present for the sacrament. On July 24, 2011, Hope Lutheran Church was officially recognized as a member congregation of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. The presentation of our charter was made by Rev. Michael Newman, the Mission and Ministry Facilitator for Area C of the Texas District, LC-MS. Shown in the photo are the charter members of Hope Lutheran along with Rev. Newman. As our small congregation grew, we felt the need to better utilize our sanctuary space. This led to a change of orientation of the room and a new altar, again construction by our Mr. Simons. On November 19, 2017, Hope was visited by the “Praise Group”, a local Gospel music group, at the invitation of Rev. Goodwill. They blessed our worship with inspirational music and singing. Through volunteerism and outreach to the community, all members, as active disciples, practice our mission of “Sharing faith in Christ with Love and Hope.” One way we do this is by annually supporting the efforts of the St. Frederick Baptist Church of Marble Falls and their feeding of the needy. Hope members provide turkeys to the church kitchen for the Thanksgiving meals. |
